About Indian Neck

Indian Neck is one of the most desirable areas in Connecticut with beautiful beach and ocean views, and tons of options for dining, hiking, or simple relaxation. If you would like to learn more about the history of our neighborhood (Indian Neck), here is a link to an excellent webinar put on by the Blackstone Library and the Branford Historical Society.

  • Big Y: 1060 West Main Street.  2.6 miles away.

Stony Creek Brewery
Bring your own food. Sit inside or out. They also have food trucks outside. Play cornhole or sit by their firepits.

Lenny’s Indian Neck
Walking distance to the house. Good lobster rolls (pricey though) and a full menu of just about anything you might want. They often have music. Can get busy. Indoor and outdoor seating options.

Nellie Green’s Restaurant
LOVE Nellie. Great for breakfast (Sunday brunch only), lunch or dinner. Sit inside or outside on the deck facing the water. They have a great bar and the food is to die for. Open year-round. Love their lobster eggs benedict.

Dockside Seafood and Grill
We like this place because it has a playground adjacent to the deck where parents can sit and eat while their kids have fun. Food is good.

Home
Good bar for socializing or sit in the restaurant and get their burger – one of my favorite burgers with sauteed onions. The photos in this restaurant were done by a local photographer.

Owenego Beach & Tennis Club
In seasons, this is a great place to have dinner. You don’t have to be a member to eat here. Dinner is not served every night, however, so call ahead to confirm. Sit outside and admire the most scenic water views. Food is only ok but the view makes up for it. CASH ONLY! Also a great place to go to have a drink before dinner. Walking distance from the house (just follow the path along the water).

Bud’s Fish Market
Fish market across the street from the house. They have a great selection, but it’s pricey! They also sell fresh bread and some great seasonings.

Guacamole’s Mexican Cuisine Branford
Walking distance from the house. We have had great meals here and not so great meals. Hit or miss.

Hiking Guide

If you chose to stay in this desirable Indian Neck neighborhood, you are most likely a lover of the outdoors. You are in luck with so many trails and hiking paths nearby! Find a new hike every day of your stay with us using our comprehensive guide below.

Branford Trolley Trail
This is a great hike that is near to the house (3.5 miles away). Parking is easy. The Branford Trolley Trail is essentially a long footbridge occupying an old bridge along the route of an abandoned trolley track. The bridge links nature trails on both sides of the water through a marsh habitat that is home to many shorebirds, fish, mammals and invertebrates. The trail is part of the growing Shoreline Greenway Trail that will one day stretch 25 miles through four towns along Connecticut’s southern coast. Parking and Trail Access Parking is at both ends: off Tilcon Road in Pine Orchard and off Thimble Island Road in Stony Creek.

Hammonasset Beach State Park
Excellent for a long bike ride or picnic. They charge in-season and often close the entrance at capacity. Walk the beach or follow the boardwalk.

49 Sybil Ave
Our favorite walk is right at the house. Walk out the driveway towards the water and open the fence gate on the right. Follow the path to the last sidewalk (Soundview). At the end of Soundview, go left up Linden towards Owenego. Walk the Owenego property. Note: some neighbors will let you cut through their yards into the Owenego property (open to the public to walk the grounds at any time). Walk down to the water and onto the rocks. If we want to make the walk longer, we’ll continue up Linden until you get to the steps that lead down to the water. Go down the steps and walk back along the beach. When you get to the end you’ll be back at Owenego and can walk up their stairs by the water.

Machimoodus State Park
Great for a short, medium or long hike or bike. Great view. We just love the ferry houses hidden throughout. 45 minutes away.

Foote Memorial Park
This park is on the water and very close to the house. It has fantastic, paved walking paths that hug the shoreline. It also has a playground and tennis courts.

Branford Trail
The 25 mile Branford Trail is a unique trail that borders a majority of the town’s perimeter. The White Circle Blazed Trail passes through the shoreline, wetlands, many town parks, northerly woodlands, and many Branford Land Trust and Open Space Properties. The trail is separated into 8 sections that begin and end at a public road with space for parking. Every home in Branford is within 15 minutes walking time of a trail. This Trail has recently been awarded Greenway Status by the Connecticut Greenways Council.

Public Walk: Sound View Heights to Linden Shores
The below picture is one of our favorite walks. Walk out of the house, go towards the water and enter the gate on the right. While it appears private (the neighbors have a sign on their fence), the walkway itself is open to the public. Walk up Sound View Heights, to Linden Rd. Take a left and follow Linden to the end. On the way back you can take the steps down to the beach close to Linden Shores and walk the beach (you cannot use this beach, but you can walk on it).

Walk to Owenego
To get to Owenego by walking, go down the path below, up Sound View Heights to Linden Rd. Take a left and Owenego is on the left.

Other nearby hikes of note:

  • Beacon Hill Preserve
  • Hoadley Road
  • Main St @ Cherry Hill Rd

Beach Access

Below is an image of how to get to the public park (steps from the house). The grassy area and rocks down the steps are open to the public and your use. There is sometimes a beach area during low tides surrounding the rocks that’s open to the public as well. Please be advised the rocks are often slippery. Use caution. Limewood Beach (just East of the public park) is private, however you can ALWAYS walk on that beach. You just cannot sit.
